Get to know about the Valentine's Day History and know how it became the day of love.

Until the 1500's the word Valentine meant the person whose name was picked from a box as to be chosen as the sweetheart but then around 1533 it meant the folded piece of paper with the sweetheart's name on it. With rolling time in 1610 it then become the gift given to the someone special and following to it by 1824 it then became a poem, a letter or verse to the sweetheart, love etc.

Although the Valentine's Day is celebrated every year on February 14th but is originated from the Roman celebration called the Lupercalia. After marriages being banned by Emperor Claudius, Saint Valentine secretly married the young women. When Claudius found out about Valentine, he first tried to convert him to paganism but failed and then sent the Valentine to Jail. During the days that Valentine was imprisoned, he fell in love with the blind daughter of his jailer. His love for her, and with great faith, managed to miraculously heal her from the blindness before his death. Before he was taken to his death, he signed a farewell message to her, "From your Valentine." The phrase has been used on his day ever since.

The first Valentine's Day Card was first sent in 1415 by Charles, duke of Orleans, to his wife at the time of impriosnment in the Tower of London.

And another important symbol, Cupid, got associated with the Valentine's day because he was the son of Venus, the Roman god of love and beauty.
